The Mountain Express

The Mountain Express offers a deviated fixed route service to the citizens of Alleghany County, Covington, Clifton Forge, and Iron Gate.

The Service operates five days a week, Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

A fare of $1.00 per trip is charged and must be paid when boarding the van. Exact change is required. Children under the age of six years old ride at no charge.

Individuals who are ADA certified may request the van to deviate off its route to make pick-ups and drop offs. This distance may not exceed 3/4 of a mile off the route.

Service is not provided for the Mountain Express program on the following holidays: New Years Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, July Fourth, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

BAD WEATHER

When Alleghany Highlands public schools close due to inclement weather this service is not provided. Announcements are made on local radio, television stations, and RADAR’s Facebook page.

Applications to ride The Mountain Express are available for those protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act. If this pertains to you, please submit an application using one of the two options listed below.

Print Version

To access a copy of the application that you can print and fill out, click the Download Application button below. After you have done all that is required to complete the application process, your information will be reviewed and you will be notified by mail of your eligibility determination within 21 days.

Online Version

To submit your application completely online, follow the two-part process below. All parts of the online application must be completed in order for the application to be reviewed. Applicants must also have the Professional Verification form completed by a professional, who is familiar with the applicant’s particular disability and current ability to use public transportation, to verify the information that the applicant
has provided.
